Special Interview With Veronica Noone

Veronica Noone, better known as Roni, is a real world success story having overcome her own weight struggles all the while raising a family and running multiple successful websites. Roni was gracious enough to answer a few questions and offer advice and inspiration to those who share similar struggles. Let’s get right to it!

First off Roni, I think it’s worth mentioning that you run a network of health related blogs.  Can you briefly give us a rundown of each site you run?

Sure!  It all started with Roni’s Weigh (http://RonisWeigh.com) (used to be called WeightWatchen.) This is my personal journal style blog. I use it to help myself and motivate others to live a healthy lifestyle while trying to lose weight. I post pretty much daily, what ever I’m inspired to do that day. It’s all about sharing my experience and trying to help others that relate to me while keeping myself “in check.”

GreenLiteBites (http://greenlitebites.com) is my adventure in food. I post 2-3 ideas a week of what I’m eating. I try to inspire people to involve their kids in the kitchen and experiment with food. My son also helps me do cooking videos from time to time. :)

BlogToLose (http://BlogToLose.com) was a community I started after I realized how important blogging was to my success. I have a background in technology but I know not everyone does. So why not create an easy space for them to blog their own journeys while building a community of like minded supportive people?

roniSkinnyMinnyMedia (http://SkinnyMinnyMedia.com) is my techy blog. It’s where I blog anything remotely geek like that just doesn’t fit on Roni’s Weight or GreeLiteBites. SkinnyMInnyMedia is the business entity I created to house all of my blog ventures.

Finally, FitBloggin’ (http://fitbloggin.com) is a conference I’m planning in the spring. I saw a need to bring people together that have an interest in using blogging and other social media tools for a health and wellness purpose. Our official tag line is.. For those that blog about fitness, wellness, good food and a healthy lifestyle. A place to connect, learn, grow and network.

Running this network of blogs must be stressful.  Is it hard to maintain a healthy lifestyle under these stressful conditions?  Are there any tips you can share that you use to stay on track?

Honestly, it is. I also work full time so “me time” is very limited. Currently I’m trying to get back into the running groove after completing my very first marathon but there just doesn’t seem to be enough hours in the day.

I’ve learned to do what I can when I can and that, frankly, will have to be enough. If I don’t post on one of my blogs, I don’t post. Simple as that. I don’t beat myself up. I don’t feel guilty. I know I’m doing me best and that will have to be good enough.

I’ve also learned to make some things non-negotiable while being flexible with others. For example it very important for me to cook and eat dinner with my family. Which we do at least 4 times a week. However, my husband LOVES to eat out. So I’ll take the break from cooking and go out for him. It gives me a break and I still get to eat with the family.

You have a self proclaimed “obsession of food”.  How are you able to keep that obsession under control and not take in too many calories on a daily basis?

I’ve become a grazer. I bring 4-5 100-200 calorie “snacks” to work and eat when my stomach growls. Everything from yogurts, to soup, to crackers, carrots, fruit, granola bars, you name it. Every night I pack what I’ll bring the next day. That way I don’t get ravished and go on a lunch spree at a local diner or something.

I’ve also learned to splurge on healthier options. Instead of ordering a pizza I’ll make one. Instead of going out for fries, I’ll cut up a butternut squash. So I still eat a lot, I’m just eating different things and in a different way.

A lot of woman struggle with losing baby weight post pregnancy, but you were able to bounce back and you look great.  Can you offer new and expecting mothers any advice on how to lose the baby fat?

I actually lost all my pregnancy weight plus some after having my baby. The first thing I would say is DO NOT PUT ANY PRESSURE ON YOURSELF. Did I say that loud enough?

Seriously, the reason why I was successful this time around was a shift in my goal and motivation. I used to want to lose weight to be thin because I thought that would make me happy. After I had the baby I wanted to lose weight to be a healthy example. That small shift made all the difference.

In closing, if there was only one piece of advice you could give somebody interested in losing weight, what would it be?

Progress not perfection. I’m not sure who coined it but it’s a perfect saying. You will never be perfect. Your body, your diet, your exercise routine none of it will always go exactly the way you want it to go. Find happiness in the journey and simply make the small choices that will get you closer to your goal.

Thanks Roni!!
