			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I recently received a great question from a reader who was losing weight, but wasn&#8217;t losing much belly fat in the process.  She writes:</p>
<p><em>Hi</em></p>
<p><em>Please advise&#8230;.I am losing weight, but I’m noticing that I&#8217;m not losing much belly fat.  Now, the reason that I started the weight loss was mainly for the belly fat&#8230;so my question is how do I lose more weight around my waist.</em></p>
<p>I understand this can be frustrating for some, but just remember this is the typically the last area that people lose fat, especially men.</p>
<p>However, there a few things you can do to speed up the process!  Here is my reply:</p>
<blockquote><p><em>Great question! And you&#8217;re not alone as this seems to be a pretty popular question I get.</em></p>
<p><em>It&#8217;s important to understand that you can&#8217;t spot reduce fat! Meaning you can&#8217;t lose just the fat in your stomach area.</em></p>
<p><em>With that being said, it sounds like you&#8217;re already on the right track! You&#8217;re losing weight and a little belly fat too. So, to lose more belly fat you need to continue what you&#8217;re doing and burn more body fat.</em></p>
<p><em>If you want to speed up the process and burn your belly fat off quicker then either remove a few more calories from your diet and/or burn more calories through exercise. Preferably by mixing cardio exercises with resistance training.</em></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I’ve been preaching for years that you don’t have to kill yourself in the gym or follow a bootcamp style fitness program to lose weight!</p>
<p>In fact, I&#8217;ve touched on this very subject in this <a href="http://www.low-caloriediet.com/articles/fitness/30-fast-simple-exercise-tips-lazy-person">easy exercise</a> tips article, as well as these articles on the <a href="http://www.low-caloriediet.com/easiest-ways-exercise">easiest ways to exercise</a>.</p>
<p>But, I want to look past exercise and focus on another major factor for burning body fat&#8230;</p>
<p>And, no, it has nothing to do with diet!</p>
<p>It&#8217;s a little something called NEAT, which stands for Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis.</p>
<p>Basically, NEAT is the calories that you burn everyday from  regular activities like walking, chewing, yard work, cleaning, talking and so on.  It does not include the calories burned from your workouts.</p>
<p><strong>So, why is this a big deal?</strong></p>
<p>Researchers believe that NEAT may play a large role in why some people are obese and why others are not.</p>
<p>In just the last century people have largely become more sedentary &#8211; watching TV, working desk jobs, surfing the web &#8211; and this a playing a major role in the obesity epidemic of today.</p>
<p>And while the amount of calories burned by those who ar more active during the day may seem trivial, think about the impact that this can have on one&#8217;s body over the course of several years!</p>
<p>By becoming more active everyday and making it part of your lifestyle, you can easily maintain a healthier body weight without killing yourself in the gym everyday.</p>
<p><strong>Here are some ideas to increase your NEAT and become more active:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Take up a hobby like gardening</li>
<li>Perform <a href="http://www.low-caloriediet.com/articles/health/desk-exercises-fit-work">desk exercises</a> at work</li>
<li>Take the stairs instead of the elevator</li>
<li>Take the dogs on a walk after dinner everyday</li>
<li>Park far away from the grocery store and/or work</li>
<li>Sign up for an extra curricular activity through work like softball or kickball</li>
<li>Play with your kids for at least 30 minutes per day</li>
<li>Walk around your mall</li>
</ul>
<p>Basically, spend less time sitting and more time walking!  A study published in the American Journal of Health Promotion found that sedentary overweight adults who met a 10,000 steps-per-day goal experienced large improvements in their body composition.  A pedometer is a great way to ensure that you meet this goal.  There are many pedometers on the market and they are not all created equal, so check out this <a href="http://www.low-caloriediet.com/articles/health/omron-hj112-digital-pocket-pedometer-review">pedometer review</a> for one of the best for the money!</p>

<p>There’s nothing wrong with waking up, and finally realizing that you aren’t content with how things are going with your weight or body image. After all, being within your goal weight will ward off many health issues and, in the long run, will allow you to enjoy life to the fullest.</p>
<p>One thing I must really stress is that you shouldn’t let a bad experience with a weight loss program in the past put you off. Sometimes, we all don’t have the correct mindset needed to achieve our goals, and it’s possible for us to relapse. However, it doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t try again when you are ready. By taking note of the mistakes you made last time, you’ll guarantee better luck and determination the second time round.</p>
<p>Here are 5 lessons that I learned on my journey and I hope that they can help you find success in your weight loss goals.</p>
<p><strong>1. Set small, frequent goals</strong></p>
<p>Saying to yourself that you want to lose 50lbs in the next month won’t get you anywhere. You don’t know whether your weight loss technique is going to be adequate, or how your body will react to your latest regime. Because of this, you should take things day by day, or week by week. This way, as you reach the little targets, you’ll be able to see real progress, and develop your strategy if things aren’t going right. It’s all about remaining motivated and believing in you.</p>
<p><strong>2. Exercise</strong></p>
<p>We’ve heard it a million times, but it’s so true. Starting a good cardio exercise routine and will burn those nasty calories. But don’t forget about weight training. The extra muscle will tone your body, plus muscle burns calories faster than fat, even when you’re sitting down watching TV.</p>
<p>Personally, I find running the most rewarding exercise to burn calories. And since I also love electronics that feed you with data, a few years ago, I bought myself a Garmin Forerunner, which is a GPS system that gives you all kinds of information about your run. But the one feature that I love on my Garmin is where it tells you how many calories you’ve burned. This rewarding feature really proves the payoffs of exercise.</p>
<p><strong>3. Think healthy first and weight loss will follow</strong></p>
<p>Eating less shouldn’t be the approach you pursue to losing weight. Instead, you need to eat healthy. Make sure that the food you are eating gives you all of the vitamins and nutrients needed. Striking the balance between meat or fish, fruit, vegetables and the right fats (which can be healthy too!) ensures that you achieve the ‘balanced diet’ which we always hear about but don’t always understand.</p>
<p><strong>4. Having some moral support along the way can be essential</strong></p>
<p>After a trying day, it’s hard to keep up the willpower, and the temptation to undo all of the hard work invested so far can be overwhelming. This is why you need family and friends by your side to remind you of why you’re making the effort to build a new you, or a support mechanism that includes access to other people who are also losing weight.</p>
<p><strong>5. Love food!</strong></p>
<p>I know that you think that food is what got you overweight in the first place, but food is really exciting. There is so much to discover, with healthy soups and delicious, nutritious snacks for during the day. Have you ever considered broadening your horizons, going to cooking classes, learning more about the foods we eat and how to create wholesome, homemade dishes without just resorting to salty, processed meals and snacks?</p>
<p>If you really listen to and follow these five lessons, you’ll soon be on your way to losing weight and feeling so much better. You can enjoy food, enjoy life, and feel like a million bucks.<em></em></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I got another excellent question from a reader this past week who was a little confused where to even begin when it comes dieting and weight loss.  She asked:</p>
<blockquote><p>I actually would like to know where or how to start? i am a 33 year old mother of two with a full time job and everyday i wake up and think where do i start? im always taking care of everyone but myself, i need a simple start&#8230;and what i mean is what to cook or how to start some exercise routine. anyway you can help i would appreciate a little guidance.</p></blockquote>
<p>First of all, thanks for the question! This is actually a very popular question and is one of the main roadblocks that prevents people from ever taking action.</p>
<p>I want to start out by saying that it&#8217;s a good idea to first download the <a href="http://www.facebook.com/lowcaloriediet">free low calorie diet plan</a>!  It&#8217;s available over on our Facebook page  (If you already &#8220;like&#8221; Low-CalorieDiet.com on Facebook then click the &#8220;Free Stuff&#8221; tab to access the low calorie diet plan).</p>
<p>As simple as the plan may be to help people lose weight, I understand that it can still be hard to figure out where to start!  There&#8217;s a lot of information and it can feel overwhelming.  So, I want to quickly share my reply to the reader who asked the above question and add a little to it.  Check it out:</p>

<div>What I have found to work the best is to plan ahead.  I know what I&#8217;m eating tomorrow before it even comes.  I actually have a meal chart that I made that I have hanging in my kitchen.  You can see a similar meal chart here:  <a href="http://www.low-caloriediet.com/articles/low-calorie/sample-calorie-meal-plan" target="_blank">Sample Low Calorie Meal Plan</a></div>

<div>It only took about a half hour to put together.  Now, I don&#8217;t eat exactly the same thing everyday, but I stick pretty closely to my chart (swapping out different foods here and there, but keeping portion sizes the same) to make sure that I&#8217;m eating roughly the same amount of calories daily.  It&#8217;s a great way to control my calorie intake without having to count every calorie I eat.</div>

<div>There&#8217;s a ton of <a href="http://www.low-caloriediet.com/calorie-recipes">low calorie recipes</a> to choose from on the site and since it sounds like your pressed for time,browse through the <a href="http://www.low-caloriediet.com/food">low calorie foods</a> section for some prepackaged low calorie options.</div>

<div>Another tip I use is every time I cook a healthy dinner at night, I portion out some for my lunch the next day.  I don&#8217;t have a ton of time to cook, so when I do cook I try to make a couple meals out of it.</div>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<div>As far as exercise goes, I personally get up early before my kids get up and squeeze in a half hour workout in my basement.  I know that&#8217;s not feasible for a lot of people, so just remember to try and move more each day.  Buy a cheap pedometer and aim to walk around 10,000 steps per day.  If you do a lot of work around the house or walk around a lot at work then those steps will add up pretty quickly.</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Two inspirational stories to help you get off the couch and burning more calories no matter what you’re physical condition is!</strong></p>
<p>We all have days where we don’t feel like working out.  We’re too tired or we simply lack the motivation to get off the couch and do something.</p>
<p>Then there are those who simply don’t let anything hold them back.  They don’t care what condition they are in, how old they are or whether they have a physical handicap.</p>
<p>They make no excuses at all!  Instead, they fight through and reach their goals no matter what!</p>
<p>Which leads me to the inspirational stories of two very special people &#8211; <strong>Corina Gutierrez</strong> and <strong>John Deegan.</strong></p>
<p>Corina was born with a rare disease called Osteogenesis Imperfecta, also known as brittle bone disease, which has left her with extremely fragile bones.  As a result of this disease, she has been in a wheelchair for years, has experienced more than 200 fractures in her life and was not expected to live past 7 years.</p>
<p>So, what’s the point of all of this?  Corina is now 32 years old and teaches <a href="http://www.low-caloriediet.com/amzn/zumba">Zumba Fitness</a> classes! And she does it all from her wheelchair, offering inspiration and hope to people from all walks of life.</p>

<p>Next up is a man named John Deegan.  John won <em>The Most Inspirational Body Transformation Of The Year</em> Award over at Tom Venuto’s  <a href="http://www.low-caloriediet.com/go/burnfat">Burn The Fat, Feed The Muscle</a> Blog.</p>
<p>And the award was certainly justified as John lost 34 pounds in just 98 days and lost 6 inches around his waist. But, it’s not that he was so successful losing weight, it’s that he did it at 61 years old, with two bad hips, using two canes and has bone on bone arthritis!  You can read more about John’s story <a href="http://www.low-caloriediet.com/go/inspiration">here</a>.</p>
<p><strong>So, what can we learn from these two individuals who have seemingly denied all odds and grabbed life by the horns?</strong></p>
<ol>
<li>Next time you don’t feel like working out or don’t think you can physically do it, remember that the only thing holding you back is yourself!</li>
<li>The majority of us have some sort of physical ailment.  Don’t let that hinder you!  Talk to a doctor to see what you CAN do and forget about what you CAN’T do.</li>
<li>In both of these examples, not only did they mentally feel better after being active, but they physically felt better, as well.  So, get up and get moving so you can feel your best both mentally and physically!</li>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>It can be hard to find time in your busy day to fit in an hour long workout session.  But, that doesn’t mean you should skip your workout completely!</p>
<p>On those busy days when it’s hard to find time to exercise, you can certainly cram a productive and calorie burning workout into a short 15 minute routine.</p>
<p><strong>But, is a 15 minute workout enough?</strong></p>
<p>Yes, in fact, <a href="http://www.webmd.com/fitness-exercise/news/20110816/15-minutes-exercise-every-day-reduces-risk-death" target="_blank">studies</a> show that a mere 15 minutes of light exercise daily may increase life expectancy by 3 years, reduce the risk of dying of cancer by 10% and reduce the risk of death by 14%.</p>
<p>Of course, more exercise is better, but on those days where a mere 15 minutes of exercise is all we can squeeze in we can still feel confident that we are improving our health and bettering ourselves.</p>
<h2>The Basics</h2>
<p>Even when you’re crunched for time, it’s important to spend the first 3 to 5 minutes warming up.  March in place for a few minutes and perform a short series of dynamic stretches.  This is simply to get your muscles warmed up and raise your heart rate.</p>
<p>Once you’ve spent a few minutes warming up you can move on to the core of your workout. Keep in mind what you’re trying to accomplish with this workout.  Are you targeting just lower or upper body?  Are you looking for a full body workout?  Do you want a cardio type workout or a resistance workout?</p>
<p>No matter what you decide your routine will be for the day, just be sure that at the end of the week you end up working the entire body and mix in both cardio and resistance training.</p>
<h2>Quick And Easy 15 Minute Workouts</h2>
<p>There are several ways you can fit in a quick 15 minute workout.  And none of them require you to change into workout clothes!</p>
<p>A quick workout can be done the more traditional way, for example, at a gym or at home performing typical exercise type movements or you can simply incorporate a calorie burning workout into everyday activities.</p>

<p>You can get a quick workout by using your own body weight, some dumbbells or an <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FH2W54/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=thebestdamnwe-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=217145&amp;creative=399369&amp;creativeASIN=B000FH2W54" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">exercise ball</a>.  Try one of these quick, full body workouts next time you’re pressed for time.</p>
<p><strong>Exercise Ball Workout</strong></p>
<p>This quick workout utilizes just one piece of equipment: <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FH2W54/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=thebestdamnwe-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=217145&amp;creative=399369&amp;creativeASIN=B000FH2W54" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">the exercise ball</a>.  Spend 3 – 5 minutes warming up then perform exercises 1 and 2 back to back with no rest for 12-15 repetitions.  Finish up with core exercises 3 and 4 below.</p>
<ol>
<li><strong>Ball Pushup</strong> – Lay flat on the ball with the ball under your hips and your hands flat on the floor, shoulder-width apart.  Lower yourself into the pushup position and push off while simultaneously bending your knees until your feet touch the ground and you are in the squat position.  This will set you up for the Ball Squat &amp; Raise next.</li>
<li><strong>Ball Squat &amp; Raise</strong> – Once in the squat position, grab the ball and stand up while simultaneously raising the ball out in front of you and over your head.  Lower yourself back down, placing the ball back under you and lean forward into the Ball Push up position again.  Repeat 12- 15 times.</li>
<li><strong>Ball Crunch</strong> – Lay in the crunch position on top of the exercise ball with your butt about 10 inches off the ground and your hands held straight out over your head.  Raise yourself up while maintaining a constant tightening of your stomach muscles until your torso is perpendicular with the ground.  Slowly lower yourself back down.  Do 12-15 repetitions.</li>
<li><strong>Side Plank</strong> – This exercise you can do with or without the ball depending on your level of fitness.  Lay on your side and raise yourself up onto your elbow with your feet still on the ground, keeping your body in a perfectly straight line.  Hold this position for 30 seconds and switch sides.</li>
</ol>
<p><strong>Light Dumbbell Workout</strong></p>
<p>This full body workout can be done in 15 minutes or less and only requires a light pair of dumbbells.  Spend a few minutes warming up then move onto the main exercises.  Perform each exercise back to back, rest 1 minute then perform each exercise again.  Add in some core work such as crunches or planks as time permits.</p>
<ol>
<li><strong>Squat press</strong> – Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart while holding a pair of dumbbells.  Lower yourself into the squat position while pressing the dumbbells straight up and over your head. Lower the dumbbells back down as you stand back up.  Repeat for 8 to 12 reps.</li>
<li><strong>Pushups</strong> – Get into the pushup position, with your knees on the ground if you can’t perform regular pushups.  Perform 8 to 10 repetitions.</li>
<li><strong>Lunge with front raise</strong> &#8211; Stand with feet shoulder-width apart while holding a pair of light dumbbells at your sides. Take a long step forward with your right leg, until your left knee is close to the floor while simultaneously raising the dumbbells straight out in front of you until your arms are parallel to the floor. Pause, then lower the dumbbells as you push yourself back to the starting position. Perform 8 to 10 reps on each side.</li>
<li><strong>Single-leg bent over row</strong> &#8211; Stand with a pair of light dumbbells at your sides. Raise one leg slightly off the floor and bend forward at the hips with your weight on the other leg until your torso is almost parallel to the floor. Let your arms hang down so the weights are near your shins. Pull the weights up to the sides of your chest, squeeze your shoulder blades together at the top, then return to the starting position. Stand on the opposite leg for the second set. Perform 8 to 10 reps on each leg.</li>
</ol>
<h3>Quick 15 Minute Workouts Anywhere</h3>
<p>Arguably the easiest way to fit a quick workout into your day is to incorporate it into your everyday activities. Here are a few ideas to quickly whip yourself into shape without setting foot in a gym or lifting a single weight.</p>
<ol>
<li>Use a <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000PEM63K?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=thebestdamnwe-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B000PEM63K" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">pedal machine</a> for 15 minutes at your work desk.  Pedal machines make it easy to burn a ton of calories without getting out of your desk chair. They are extremely small and inconspicuous, meaning you can pedal without anybody knowing you’re doing it. <li>Do simple exercises such as jumping jacks, crunches, pushups, etc. during the commercial breaks of your favorite TV show. You could get a quick and easy 15 minute workout in during one half hour show.</li>
<li>Take advantage of your breaks at work and walk around your building.  Invite a co-worker to join you and even wear a pedometer to record the amount of steps you take.  Aim to improve that number over time.</li>
<li>Park a few blocks away from work and walk.  If it takes you 7 to 8 minutes to walk from your car to your desk then that’s 15 minutes of exercise a day (round trip) right there.  This can also be done every time you go to the store, as well.</li>
<li>Take the stairs instead of the elevator when possible.  This can be extremely effective and total 15 minutes or more of exercise if you bounce from floor to floor quite often.</li>
<li>Be more active with your family!  Take the dog for a daily walk after dinner or play with the kids.</li>
<li>Trade your riding lawn mower in for a push mower.  Depending on the size of your yard you could get well over a 15 minute workout.</li>

<p>I thought it would be a good idea to add to that list and offer 10 more weight loss techniques you can add to your daily routine to lose weight.</p>
<p>These simple techniques will help you create the caloric deficit necessary to lose weight.  Best of all, you don’t have to watch every single thing you eat nor count a single calorie!  So, let’s get started:</p>
<h2>Use Tall And Skinny Glasses</h2>
<p>By pouring your liquid calories into a tall, skinny glass instead of a short wide glass you may drink 25-30% less according to studies at Cornell University. How is this possible? It’s all visual.  The tests showed that people tend to pour more into short wide glasses then they do tall skinny glasses.</p>
