4 Ways To Eat Slowly And Lose Weight

by Tory McBroom

Reducing the amount of calories consumed during a meal may be as easy as eating a little slower according to a study published by the University of Rhode Island.  They found that participants ate 67 fewer calories on average when they took about twenty minutes extra to eat there meal.  While 67 calories may sound minimal, they can really add up over the course of 3-5 meals eaten per day.

Here’s 4 tips you can start using at your next meal to help you eat slower and consume less calories.

Conversation
Take time to enjoy the company you’re with while eating your meals.  It can be tough to find the time spend with friends or family so enjoy this time together.  And an added side benefit is you might eat a few less calories.  Just don’t talk with food in your mouth! J

Family Dinner At The Table
A great way to bond and learn about your spouse and child’s day is to have a sit down family dinner every evening.  It’s also a great way to eat your dinner more slowly. Ask how your spouse how their day was or ask what your kids learned in school today.

Savor the taste
Instead of scarfing your food down as quickly as possible without even tasting it, try eating it slowly, savoring each bite.  You might even find that you develop an appreciation for certain foods.

Put down the fork

Another technique to try involves putting your fork down in between bites.  This is best combined with all of the above options.  For example, a) put your fork down and conversate with family or friends, b) set down your fork and savor each bite.
