Do you find it hard to stay in shape all summer long with all the cookouts, family picnics, grilling parties and so on that pop-up every weekend? The summer presents many tasty obstacle’s for sure, but it might be easier than you think to stay in swimsuit shape all summer long and still be able to have a great time with your friends and family!
The summer season offers the perfect chance to take advantage of the beautiful weather and the large variety of healthy foods available to us. So let’s take a look a t a few ways to stay slim (or even slim up) during this time of year.
- Warmer weather presents excellent opportunities to get outside and burn some calories. Go on long walks, play Frisbee, volleyball or tennis with family and friends or take advantage of your local swimming pool. Here’s 30 more ways to get you exercising.
- Fire up the grill and throw on some lean meats such as chicken or turkey breasts! Grilling even reduces the calories and fat content of these already lean meats by allowing some of the fat to drip off. Grilling is a perfect way to get more veggies in your diet as well! Try seasoning and grilling your favorite veggies in tin foil.
- Replace those sugar-laden cookies, cupcakes and ice cream with seasonal fresh fruit like berries, melons and exotic fruits. Cut up fresh fruit regularly and store in the fridge for the perfect snack to satisfy that sweet tooth.
- If you know you got a big cookout planned and the ribs are just going to be too irresistible to pass up, try limiting your calories during a meal later in the day to allow for a little extra calories to be consumed during the cookout. Also hang out by the veggie tray and fill up on low calorie vegetables before heading over to the grill for that half rack of ribs.
- Make sure you stay hydrated during the summer months, but quench your thirst with water rather than sugar added juices and alcohol (Ok, maybe a little alcohol). Try cutting up some fruit and adding it to your bottled water for extra flavor!
