A low calorie meal doesn’t have to be bland and boring, nor does it have to leave you still wanting more when you’re done. In fact, you can easily put together a low calorie meal plan that is delicious, healthy and most importantly, will leave you feeling satisfied all day long.
What does a healthy, low-calorie meal consist of?
When reducing your caloric consumption it’s important to eat a wide variety of foods to ensure you are getting ample nutrients. A healthy, low-calorie meal consists of:
- Lean proteins such as chicken, eggs, turkey, cottage cheese, etc.
- Complex carbohydrates such as whole grains, vegetables and fruits.
- Minimal amount of “good fats” such as peanut butter, almonds, olive oil, etc.
Fruits and especially vegetables should make up a large part of your low calorie diet for a variety of reasons:
- They are high in fiber, which creates a lasting feeling of fullness
- They are water-rich, which fills you up faster, without the added calories
- They contain vital nutrients to maintain your health
