Q: What exactly does it mean to burn fat? I’ve heard working out turns fat into muscle, so how is this really burning fat?
A: Fat is not turned into muscle, as the popular myth suggests. In short, everybody has fat cells underneath their skin. It’s these fat cells that actually hold the fat. When you create a calorie deficit, your fat cells release this fat into your blood stream as FFA’s (Free Fatty Acid’s) and carry them to your muscle cells where they are “burned” for energy, thus coining the phrase “burning fat”.
