Q: I keep getting conflicting information about drinking coffee. It seems like one day it’s fine and the other it’s not. Is it OK to enjoy a cup or two?
A: Yes, it’s OK. Coffee actually helps your body burn more calories (by stimulating your central nervous system and increasing your metabolic rate) and even contains chlorogenic acid, which some studies have shown may help keep the pounds off. The problem some have with coffee is a) it may have you craving sweets because caffeine may cause a drop in blood sugar levels and b) people tend to load their coffee up with sugar and cream. Basically, if you’re eating a healthy diet and not loading your coffee up with excessive sugar or cream, then a cup or two of coffee a day is perfectly fine.
