Q: While eating Christmas dinner with the family, one of my relatives mentioned that on average people gain 10lbs over the holidays. Is this true?
A: While some people might gain that much the average amount of weight gained between Thanksgiving and New Year’s is a modest .8 to 1 pound according to a study by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD). The problem is if you don’t lose that extra weight after the holidays, then over the years it will slowly build up. You can avoid this by simply eating what you want during your holiday dinners and return to your normal diet the next day.
