Remember the popular Chia Pets of the 80’s? Well, the chia seed is back, but this time they are marketed as a health food and weight loss miracle! While there are no weight loss miracles, the chia seed, which dates back to Aztec cultures, are tiny black and white seeds that are rich in omega-3’s, fiber, protein and antioxidants. They are easily mixed in with just about anything you want – cereal, yogurt, sauces, rice dishes, etc – and will make a great addition to your balanced diet.
Chia seeds can be rather expensive, but I’ve found these certified organic chia seeds for sale on Amazon to be about half the price as they are at my local grocery store.
Where to buy: Available at most groceries or whole food stores or have them shipped directly to your door from Amazon.com.
